Ralph's Journal

I sat in the dark listening to the whoops and hollers of the ludicrous things that we call children. I sat in the darkness, Piggy and I listening in shame to the creatures we both felt like we brought into existence. “Blow the conch again?” he asked tenderly from somewhere to my right.
“So they will ignore me?” I asked jeeringly. We listen again only to hear the start of a hunting chant and hysterical lamentations from the dark. The way that jack had gotten everyone excited added to my growing discouragement about being chief.
“I should quit being chief, I suck at it anyhow,” I stated plainly.
“No! Please don’t Ralph you’re the only person standing between that evil boy, Jack,” yelled Piggy.
“Without you are chief everyone would be as ad as savages,” said an disembodied voice out of the ever deepening darkness.
“Is that you Simon?” asked Piggy.
“Yes.”
The Three of us sat in silence for a while listening as the screams and crying from the beach turned into the sound of a rambling mush, all stuffed together into one. “Darn it, Darn it, Darn it, Darn it!” yelled Piggy into the darkness as if this deficient form of an incantation could have made everything be better.
I got up and walked back to the shelters slowly ignoring the following footsteps behind me.
