The book 1984 by George Orwell was written in 1949, when the government was watching people and spying on them so the writer, George Orwell, wrote this book as a warning to people about how the future would be. This book is about a man named Winston who works at the Ministry of Truth in London, England which is now part of Oceania. There have been wars arising between that country and others after a new government called ‘The Party’ or Big Brother have token over.
The new government set up a system of houses called Ministries. There is the Ministry of Love, the Ministry of Truth, Ministry of Peace, and Ministry of Plenty. But the names are exactly the opposite of what they really are. Truth is the lies thy put into the newspapers and books. Love is a jail and torture place. Plenty decides how little they can give the people without riots and Peace starts wars with other countries. This is a world where “War Is Peace, Freedom Is Slavery and Ignorance Is Strength”.
The book goes on as Winston is scared that he is being followed because of an illegal diary that he has been keeping where he has put out his real feelings about big brother. He feels as though a dark haired girl has been following him everywhere and soon realizes it is true when he sees her in a remote part of the city away from where he presumed she lives. He decides that she is a member of the thought police, an elite group of police that can convict people and kill them just of having the thought of things not approved by the government.
This book was more of an adults book and I wouldn’t suggest anyone under the age of 14 reading this book unless you have a very good vocabulary and can follow plots that are hard to understand and at some spots, don’t make since. This book would be good for a person able to read it multiple times but unless you can’t then I would suggest not reading it because it is hard to understand. The plot changes a lot and there are many twists but instead of it making you more exited they made it harder to understand. I would describe this book as a confusing mystery.
This book was alright by my standards but it was lacking in plot and dialect. It was of a narrative where he is telling the story of his life, which isn’t very exiting. It was an six out of ten in my book and shouldn’t be attempted unless you are ready for a challenging book.
