Chapter 1: Name List
Piggy’s Journal
As Ralph blew into the conch all that could be heard was a gurgling noise. I snickered under my breath know that he wouldn’t find how to use it without me. As I was advising him how to do it, he blew into it again and an incredulously ear shattering noise emitted from the shell. After the echoes of the noise had died down from around us we stared unbelievingly at the small shell that had made this huge noise. As we were still frozen I saw a small figure out of the corner of my eye. I turned to look and there was a small boy walking out of the forest with fruit juice covering his otherwise creamy white skin with a distant pallor.
As Ralph kept sounding the signal, more kids kept heading out of the forest into the blinding effulgence of the beach and sun. I was trying to kept track of all the names of the kids but just as I was starting to feel confidant about it, identical twins walked onto the beach. They were Sam and Eric but the looked, breathed and spoke the same. I got their names mixed up and the small crowd gathered giggled. There were some older boys but most were younger, the youngest being around the age of 5.
As I was still getting names I noticed that Ralph had stopped blowing the conch and I looked up to see an ever enlarging shadow crossing the beach towards our meeting place. I was stuck in glamour as I stared wide eyed as I realized that it wasn’t a shadow but a group of black cloaked people. As the crowed onto our plat form I noticed that they all had hats atop their head each with a silver badge, but the boy that seemed to be leading them had a gold badge. His name was Jack.
Ralph decided that we should put up a vote to see who would be leaded. Ralph won by a landslide of votes but from the specious look on Jacks face I knew that he couldn’t be trusted. I made a silent decision to keep on eye on him.
