Brother I'm Dying 6

Quote 1: “What’s a DNR?” my father asked Bob in Creole.
“It’s a piece of paper that says if you die, you don’t want to be brought back to life and kept alive by machines,” Bob explained.
“No,” my father told the doctor. “I don’t want to be kept alive by machines. There’s already enough suffering.”
-a conversation between Bob and his Father, page 236

Significance: I choose this quote because however much her father tries not to show he’s in pain and suffering, it shows that he still is but he doesn’t want his family to worry about him. Also it also tells us that he’d rather die when he was going to than go on suffering the way that he is right now. I really feel sympathy for him because of his condition and the pain that he is going through.

Question 1: How would you feel if you heard your father say this? Would it make you realize what’s really happening?

Quote 2: Looking at Nick, my uncle said, “Maxo, I’ll be sad to die without seeing you again.” Then turning to Bob, he said, “Isn’t that right, Mira?”
He called me Ino, the name of his dead sister.
“Ino knows I’m right,” he said. Then closing his eyes once more, he added, “Kite zetwal yo tonbe.” Let the stars fall.
-said by Edwidges uncle (when she was 6), page 240

This quote was really scary to me because they all thought that he was going to die right then and must have been overjoyed when he lived. But it also is sad because she is pretty much going through her uncle dying twice in a lifetime. It must be really hard on her considering he was like a father to her growing up.

Question 2: Can you imagine what it would be like if you had to go through a close person in your family dying twice in your life?

Quote 1: I didn't know what a DNR, so from reading this quote I learned something new. I also at first wondered why the father would ask the brother in Creolo, but then I figured it out that he didn't want the doctor to know that he didn't know what a DNR was.

Question 1: I think that it would make me realize that my father was so close to dying that the doctor was asking that. It would also make me sad because then by the father saying know, it shows that he doesn't want to go through anything else.

Quote 2: I didn't understand this quote at first but then I understood that he thought that the children were like his sister's and son. I thought that this was very sad, because he was so sick that this did know what was going on and who everyone was.

Question 2: I would feel horrible and sad because you had to go through him almost dying once, but then it happened again for real.

Quote 1: Well we know that Edwidges father is Sick. Now we know that he dose not want to be kept alive by those dang machines!
Question 1: I would object to the entire thing!sure he would not like it that he would be alive by machines but I don't want to loose him like in the book!

Quote 2: I have herd of people seeing dead family when they die. He is having one of those flashes. Now we know that he is leaving this planet once and for all.
Question 2:No I could not go through with one of my family member dying twice. I could not go through with the feeling.
