Quote 1: “The X-rays have returned,” he said, looking only at my uncle. His voice was slightly distorted by the mask, so he raised it slightly to make sure my uncle heard him. “There’s a problem.”
He knew that Uncle Joseph couldn’t speak and didn’t expect a reply.
“The children,” he said, glancing momentarily at Bob and me, “Appear to have tuberculosis.”
-said by the doctor on page 99
Significance: The reason that I choice this quote was because it changes the whole story, which means that they will have to stay in Haiti for another 6 months and won’t be able to see their family. I’m pretty sure that they will either go back to America to get a doctor or if they can’t, they will stay and their family will come to them. I really hate that another thing has to happen to ruin her life again; she just keeps getting devastating blows.
Question 1: Will her family come to her or will she head back?
Quote 2: “Don’t forget,” he told us, looking at our face at last. “Every morning when you take your pills, you’re closer to New York.”
-said by the doctor page 101
Significance: I thought that this quote showed them the hope in the situation. Even when they might have thought that there was none, it still showed through. I think that this was really important because now they will be more eager to get better.
Question 1: How will the situation that their daughter is in effect her parents?

Quote 1: When I heard this, I felt really bad for the children because they were so close to being able to go America, but then something like this happens to them and they then have to wait six more months in order to go. I also think that somehow this was a good thing for the children because then they were able to spend more time with their aunt and uncle like they wanted.
Question 1: I think that her family will stay in America and then after Edwidge and her brother are feeling better, they will then go to America.
Quote 2: I think that this was a really nice way of telling the children that you have to take the pill, because kids don't like taking pills so this doctor added a good thing into taking the pills. Also like you said it added hope for them so that everyday the kids where taking the pill, they were one day closer to going to America.
Question: I think that because Edwidge and her brother both have TB, it will make their parents even more sad because just as soon as they were going to finally be a family again, something like this happens where the parents have to wait another 6 months to see their kids.
Quote 1: that must have really been a challenge for Edwidge to have tuberculosis at her age.
Response 1: yes Ross, that dose change the story for Edwidge and her bothers. It means that they will be postponed for 6 months.
Questions 1: she will stay but her father and mother will not return for them.
Quote 2: the doctor is right, each pill the closer they get to New York.
Response 2: yes they will be more eager to get well so they can see there other family.
Question 2: they may have problems in the beginnings but they will work theou and be one family after 1-2 weeks.
Quote one: I almost chose this quote as well, actually. I feel very strongly for this quote, I think it's life changing and now the story will be different with that in their life and the delay in their travel.
Question one: I think that when she gets better she'll go to them.
Quote two: I /again/ almost did this one! I thought that even though they don't want to take the pills and believe in this sickness, the motivation that they will become closer to NY is important to them.
Question 2: probably make them upset because they really want to see their kids and be with them.
